I was diagnosed with colon cancer in early 2000, with no symptoms other than the wrong color on the occult blood test. My first reaction was "This can't be happening to me! Cancer is for old people." I've since learned much better. But it was many months before I could say "<b>I</b> had cancer". I would say "I had a cancerous tumor."
